The Effect of Benzodiazepines on Anxiety-related Cognition
01 May 2025
We would like to invite you to participate in a study investigating the effects of benzodiazepines on anxiety-related cognition and behaviour. It is hoped that this research will contribute to an improved understanding of anxiety-related disorders and how to treat them. We are investigating the effects of a single dose of lorazepam, a drug used to treat anxiety and insomnia, on cognition and behaviour.
Requirements
- There are some inclusion/exclusion criteria in place which are designed to limit the risks of adverse drug effects. We have a brief online questionnaire that you will need to complete so that we can assess your eligibility. Please see the link below.
- You are eligible if you are aged between 18 and 64 and don’t have a history of neurological illness or any other physical health condition likely to influence cognitive ability. To limit dangerous interactions with lorazepam, we are excluding individuals who are currently or have recently taken other drugs which are known to interact with lorazepam. We are excluding participants who are/may be/planning to get pregnant, to limit harm to unborn children. Other indications may be taken into account so that those with higher risk of side-effects of lorazepam are excluded (e.g. history of benzodiazepine allergy).
